Three Vassalboro Transfer Station Task Force members, Transfer Station Manager Adam Daoust and Town Manager Aaron Miller met Feb. 5 to review four options for rearranging the Lombard Dam Road disposal facility. They chose two plans to forward to Jeff Senders, head of Senders science, engineering & construction, of Camden, for cost estimates.
Discussion covered traffic patterns and buildings and equipment. One of the task force’s main goals is to eliminate the need to back up to unload trash.
Senders has worked with the town for two years, including designing variations of a drive-through pole barn that would allow people to dump trash into the sides of the containers. The pole barn is one option for which task force members seek estimated costs.
The other is a plan described as a rotary, suggested by task force (and select board) member Chris French. It sets up a circular traffic pattern, with disposal containers located outside the rotary on two sides.
Much of the Feb. 5 discussion was of details in French’s plan, like how many containers would fit into available space, and what, if anything, should occupy the center of the rotary.
The group also discussed other changes and repairs Daoust recommends, including tearing down the “tower” that tops the current disposal containers.
After the meeting, Miller said he might have more information from Senders later this month. Task force members did not schedule another meeting.
