The China Historical Society is proud to present “Made in China,” a group art exhibition showcasing the work of artists who live in China, Maine – or whose work reflects the spirit, beauty, and stories of the town.

Held at the barn, at 16 Jones Road, in South China, the exhibit opens with a public reception on Thursday, August 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will also be open to visitors on Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Made in China” features a wide range of artistic media – including painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and more. It invites the community to come together to celebrate the town’s vibrant artistic talent and rich local identity.

“This is a show about our place — our people, our landscapes, our stories — interpreted through the eyes and hands of artists who live here,” said Scott McCormac, exhibit coordinator. “It’s a celebration of both art and community.”

Artists and collectors are invited to submit work for the exhibition on Sunday, August 3, between the hours of 2 – 6 p.m., at 16 Jones Road, or by appointment. All media are welcome, and submissions should reflect either a direct connection to China, Maine, or be created by an artist who lives in town.

EVENTS: Tina’s Daylilies to host garden party for 11th annual MS fundraiser

Once again Tina’s Daylilies will be hosting their annual garden party fundraiser which is open to the public. This is the eleventh year Tina’s Daylilies has held this event. They will have door prizes, refreshments, live music and Tina says “we will have lots of blooms!”

Each year 20 percent of the proceeds that day is donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for MS research. Along with donations folks give throughout the season, people can also go online to Tina’s Daylilies website anytime to donate. “Research for a cure is what we really need”, Tina says.

Multiple Sclerosis is an incurable, progressive disease that attacks the central nervous system. It is now estimated that one million people in the United States have been diagnosed with MS. This disease most
often appears in people between ages 20 to 50, with two to three times more women than men receiving the diagnosis.

Owner Tina White who is someone who lives with MS, has raised money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society every year since her diagnosis in 2012. “I have participated in MS walks and in the MS Plane Pull at the Portland Jet Port, but for the past 11 years I have held this event as part of my business.

I have people who come back each year to the event just to support MS research whether they buy daylilies or not.” White reports.

The event will be Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Tina’s Daylilies, located at 310 East Pond Road, in Jefferson. If you are unable to attend the event but would like to donate to the fundraiser you may go to the event page at www.tinasdaylilies.com and click on the “Donate to NMSS” button. Tina’s Daylilies is open June, July and August each year, they offer over 100 varieties of daylilies which are field grown right here in Maine. Make the world brighter for patients by giving blood

Type O blood donors especially urged to give

As the busy Fourth of July holiday week gets closer, the American Red Cross asks donors to celebrate by making a blood or platelet donation appointment to help power the blood supply through mid-summer. While all blood types are needed, donors with type O blood are most urgently needed.

Making and keeping donation appointments now is critical to ensuring blood products are available for all patients – including those in trauma situations that may require several lifesaving transfusions – in the weeks to come. Type O negative blood is often reached for in emergencies when there isn’t time to match a patient’s blood type. Type O positive is the most common blood type, so it’s important to keep type O blood and all blood types on hand at hospitals for people facing both chronic illness and sudden, life-threatening conditions.

Don’t wait – add a blood or platelet donation appointment to your summer calendar today by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

The Red Cross and goodr are joining forces in July to remind donors they’re just the type patients can count on. All who come to give July 1-14, 2025, will get an exclusive pair of Red Cross x goodr sunglasses, while supplies last. Donors can personalize their one-of-a-kind shades with a blood type sticker! For details, visit RedCrossBlood.org/ goodr.
